Familiarity with the regulations surrounding your idea should be one of your first priorities as they may well have a significant impact on the final design and costs. Some of these regulations will require specific testing of your product which can be expensive and time consuming.
Within the European Union it is likely that your product will need to meet the CE Mark regulations as a minimum. Safety may and fitness for purpose will also be major considerations. It is possible that some of these costs could be picked up by a licensee or covered by Government Grant Schemes.
