Good design is a basic requirement for the success of any invention – in all aspects - functionality, appearance and manufacturability. Many inventors are reluctant to engage a professional designer, seeing it as an expensive luxury and believing that the best way forward is to make, or get made, a prototype product to their own design.
This can be a very expensive and time consuming mistake!
Many inventions are best suited for licensing to a company that has ready access to the target market. Such a company might well want to be involved in one, or more, aspect of the design process. (See Qest Guide - Product Licensing). In addition, there may be Government Funds available to help you meet some design costs.
